Instagram has added some new features in the recent past, and one of them is the option to mute a story. If you are following a large number of people then it can be difficult to see all the stories.
The best part is, that you can also mute the story of a page or a person without unfollowing and blocking.
Later if you wish to see the story, you should also know how to unmute the story on Instagram.
To simplify the methods, we have provided three different ways to unmute the story. So, you can follow the step that works for you.
How To Mute Someone On Instagram?
If you are unaware of muting someone on Instagram, you can follow these simple steps.
- Log in to Instagram.
- Go to the profile of the person whom you want to mute.
- Tap on the “Following” option.
- Now you will see a popup with multiple options.
- Select the “Mute” option.
- Then toggle the switch on for both posts and stories.
That’s it. Now you won’t get any post and story of that particular person/page in your feed.
Note: The user won’t get any notification stating that you have muted them.
How to unmute a story on Instagram?
Method 1: From the home page itself
Without doing any additional settings, you can simply mute and unmute a story on Instagram.
If you want to mute, long-press the story of the person and tap on Mute.
Follow these steps, to unmute,
- Scroll to the end part of all the stories.
- In the last section, you can see muted stories in Grey color.
- Long press the story.
- You will see the pop-up at the bottom of the page.
- Select Unmute option.
Now the story is unmuted and you will be able to see the story as usual.
Method 2: From the profile
- Go to the profile of the person you want to unmute.
- Tap on the “Following” option.
- From the pop-up from the bottom part, click the Mute option.
- Toggle the options to Of status.
Now the story and posts of the person will be unmuted.
Method 3: From Instagram Settings
If you are unable to find the story of the person in your feed, you can use this final method.
- Go to the settings option of your Instagram account.
- Select the option ‘Privacy’.
- Then select ‘Muted accounts’ at the bottom of the page.
- You will see the list of accounts that you have muted already.
- Now follow the steps mentioned in Method 2 to unmute the posts/story of the person/page.
For those who use the older version of Instagram:
If you are using the older version of Instagram, you can follow the below steps, to unmute the post/story.
- Go to the profile of the person.
- You will see the notification “You have muted the story”.
- Tap on Unmute option available besides the notification.
These are the possible methods available to mute/unmute the story or posts that you want to get rid of. All these methods work on both Android and iPhone.
